6th Pathfinder Walk 32k
25 August 2003

Very swift journey up to Cambridgeshire, but when Anne and I arrived at 0800, we discovered that the 14 mile walk start had been put back to 0930.

We didn't fancy waiting an hour and a half, so after I'd eaten an egg bap, we changed our registration to the 20-miler...

We made a good pace, although the first part of the walk was a bit dull - lots of walking round the edge of fields - but no hills! We kept getting overtaken by long-legged men, and there seemed to be very few women walking today.

The route after checkpoint 2 was lovely - woods, and through a nature reserve. One nasty navigation moment, when we were directed through an impassable farm, but we scooted round with no problem.

We were told that the third checkpoint was at 15 miles, but my legs told me that it was not that far...either that, or the last five miles felt like a long way. All the routes joined up for the last couple of miles, so we were able to overtake some peeps on the way home.

Wonderful tea at the finish, and we collected our mug (with a Mosquito plane on it), medal and certificate, and chatted to Dick, the organiser, and other finishers. Our time: 6 hours 57 mins, which we were pleased with.

Anne had no new blisters! A pb for her. But she seems to be growing a claw on one of her feet.
A fine walk, and great company as ever!
