Reculver on the Saxon Shoreway

At the start of 2004, I set myself the challenge of walking the Saxon Shoreway, and I've just finished it. Here is the 163 miles in all its glory.

High above Ogwen Valley

I'm a member of 333, which is the support group for the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue group.  The Ogwen Valley is one of my favourite places in the world, so it's a small token of my appreciation for those who help try to keep it safe for us walkers.

Lorna, Helen and me on the first day of Trailwalker 2004

My longest walk ever was Trailwalker 2004 - 62 miles non-stop. You can read my long report here. The next day, I said, 'Never again.' So of course we've just done it again.

The 2005 team: Heather, John, me, Iain, Lorna, Alison. For the report, go here

I'm a bit of a gear freak - here you can read about where the money goes.

September 2004: Snowdonia: Nant Ffrancon

A wonderful walk with Ann of Wild Wales - my report is here.

June 2004: Fantastic landscape on the Poppyline marathon.

May 2004: A great day doing the Sarsen Trail half marathon in Wiltshire

Dianne heads downhill on the Sarsen trail - see here for the report.

February 2004: Just back from another fantastic two days in Snowdonia, walking with Del from Wild Wales.

See here for my report of a wonderful and wet couple of walks.

5, 6 Feb 2003: nav with Del

Last year, I did a couple of days navigation training with Del of Wild Wales - here's my report.

Last year's challenge walks and reports:

Rottingdean Windmill Walk
Fairlands Valley Walk
Southend 23 miles
Pathfinder 20 miles
Brentwood Marathon (29 miles)
Gatliff Marathon (23 miles)
Stansted Stagger (25 miles)

How it all began...

I used to walk a lot...and then I stopped. But since an injury stopped me running early in 2003, I've got my walking boots out again. At first, I started walking up and down the Lea Valley, which is very close to where I live. It's also where I started running.

The Lea and Stort canal, from Ferry Lane bridge

I've walked down to Limehouse to the Thames, and up to Waltham Abbey. I've also joined the London Loop at Enfield Lock to walk to Chigwell. You can see some rather grey views on this walk I took from Broxbourne to Tottenham in December last year.
